We imagined a future where electricity runs on an internet-like smart system.
The reality is that today’s power systems still use basic technology, some of which was invented 100+ years ago. Great innovations happen in energy, but connect back to this old structure – and as such, our progress will always be limited by infrastructure.
Our founder, Matthew started focusing on this problem when leading upgrades of power stations and large industrial energy users in Australia many years ago. He realised that there was no technology he would use, so he set out to find a systemic solution. The goal was hardware that can help resolve any new types of issues as the energy transition progresses, while – coupled with the right software – gradually transforming the power systems into the smart platforms we need.
This motivated our mission: Transforming Power.
We work to enable energy systems that are ready for the 21 st century. But it’s also something we have: the power to transform.

As a mechatronic engineer who has been managing systems design technical teams for over a decade, Matthew is a business leader with a unique insight on how to build the most efficient power systems. An author of numerous patents, he has been working on innovative power flow control technologies since 2016.
Luca is an Oxford-trained neuroscientist with an MBA and a career in energy tech startups. As CGO she leads global growth, forging strategic partnerships and expanding the company’s ecosystem. Her interdisciplinary background bridges science, technology, business and people, to accelerate the energy transition.
An electrical engineer by background, Jeff brings a growth-mindset fuelled by decades of industry leadership to the IONATE board. He has held both Senior Officer positions at Fortune 500 companies and co-founded startups, participating in three successful exits and five acquisitions.
