Control Systems Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

Requiring a solid automation and control expertise, this position will involve working directly under our Head of R&D and Engineering. You will play a key role through all aspects of the technology development lifecycle, taking concepts through to commercial product for customers.

With a focus on PLC, SCADA, and communications, you will be active in initiating and leading design reviews and technical discussions and will have an innovative approach with engineering reasoning. Importantly, your work will include supporting project and test activities and contributing to ensure that these are completed within schedule and budget.

What you will do:

  • Work as part of our multidisciplinary team to integrate the automation system with other device subsystems.

  • Specify and design solutions for PLC control systems and SCADA.

  • Produce technical documentation and schematics, such as SLD and Electrical & Instrumentation drawings, network diagrams, test plans, and functional specifications.

  • Develop PLC software from multiple design formats such as Block Diagrams, Flow Charts or Pseudo Code.

  • Validate software designs through analysis and test.

  • Perform hardware selection and testing, such as sensors, CBs and power supplies.

  • Design LV electrical panels.

 

What you will need:

  • A degree level education or alternate qualification equivalent in Electrical or Control Systems Engineering (BEng, BSc, etc).

  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in delivery of Automation Projects.

  • Ability to problem solve and think of solutions to difficult technical problems you might not have encountered before

  • Strong delivery focus, taking on end-to-end ownership of projects and/or products

  • Self-management and drive; willing to proactively take on complex challenges

 

It would be useful to have:

  • Experience programming of PLC and SCADA systems from the ground up; through to FAT / SAT and customer handover.

  • Experience and knowledge of power system automation and control.

  • Experience of Industrial Communication protocols and networking standards

  • Instrumentation and Process Equipment knowledge.

  • Excellent FAT background, proven experience throughout a full Project Lifecycle from Design through to Commissioning.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
